Tenugui “Ajisai no Niwa” – HAMAMONYO, 100% cotton, made in Japan
Tenugui “Ajisai no Niwa” – Japanese cotton cloth
Hydrangea splendor in early summer
This tenugui depicts a lush hydrangea garden (紫陽花, ajisai) in full bloom. The purple, violet, blue, and pink blossoms contrast vividly with the soft beige background. The composition evokes a tranquil garden stroll during the tsuyu season—Japan's rainy season, when hydrangeas are at their most beautiful.
This cloth is manufactured by the traditional family business HAMAMONYO in Yokohama. The company has mastered the Yokohama wet -dyeing technique for over 75 years and combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design. The fabric is chlorine-free bleached, pleasantly soft, skin-friendly, and specially developed for tenugui production.
A tenugui full of peace, color and harmony – inspired by the natural beauty of Japanese gardens.
The motif was awarded the “Gold Award” by the OMOTENASHI Selection – a seal of quality for genuine Japanese craftsmanship and stylish design.
