Tenugui “Hanabi to Onami” – HAMAMONYO, 100% cotton, made in Japan
Tenugui “Hanabi to Ōnami” – Japanese cotton cloth
Summer night with fireworks and wave power
This tenugui depicts a powerful scene: brilliant fireworks (花火, hanabi) illuminate the night sky, while dynamic waves (大波, ōnami) crash across the sea below. The vibrantly colored composition impressively combines energy and festivity—a symbol of the Japanese summer in all its glory.
The cloth is manufactured by the renowned family-run company HAMAMONYO in Yokohama, which has mastered the Yokohama wet -dyeing technique for over 75 years. The cotton fabric used is chlorine-free bleached, soft, skin-friendly, and specially developed for tenugui production.
An expressive summer motif that captures the feeling of a matsuri festival by the sea – with thunderous fireworks over dark water and dancing waves in vibrant colors.
The motif was awarded the “Gold Award” of the OMOTENASHI Selection – a sign of high-quality design, masterful technology and Japanese aesthetics.
