Tenugui “Sakura Shinryoku” – HAMAMONYO, 100% cotton, made in Japan
Tenugui “Sakura Shinryoku” – Japanese cotton cloth
Cherry blossom splendor in young spring green
This cheerfully colorful tenugui is called桜 新緑 (Sakura Shinryoku) – "Cherry Blossoms and Fresh Greenery." It depicts a classic scene from a Japanese garden: a young woman in a kimono beneath a sea of pink sakura blossoms (桜) , flanked by fresh spring greenery.
In the foreground, a clear stream flows with koi carp (鯉) , water lily pads, and falling petals. The red bridge, a typical element of traditional gardens, connects the lush green with the soft pink of the sky. This design symbolizes nature's new beginnings in spring and the harmony between people and the landscape.
The motif comes from HAMAMONYO , a traditional textile manufacturer from Yokohama. Thanks to the Yokohama wet printing technique, the colors appear particularly bright and clear, even in subtle color gradients like the delicate sky in the background.
Like many of the company's products, this tenugui was awarded the OMOTENASHI Selection Gold Award – a sign of authentic Japanese quality and design.
