This tenugui captures the tranquil beauty of the Japanese rainy season. It is made by the Yokohama-based family business HAMAMONYO – a manufacturer with over 75 years of experience in the traditional wet-print dyeing technique (Yokohama Nassen). The motif is hand-printed on a fine cotton fabric that is bleached without chlorine and specially developed for tenugui production. It is soft, skin-friendly, and pleasantly light.

The image depicts vibrant hydrangeas (紫陽花, ajisai) surrounded by raindrops from the May rains (五月雨, samidare) and traditional Japanese wagasa umbrellas. The scene symbolizes renewal and serenity—a moment typically found in Japanese gardens in early summer. Delicate light, vivid colors, and flowing forms blend into a calm, elegant composition.
