Welcome to our " Tenugui of the Week "! This time we present a design that combines world-famous Japanese design with a charming wink.

Tenugui Mameshiba and Wave

Tradition meets pure joie de vivre

At the heart of this design is a Mameshiba – an extremely popular, cartoonish dog character in Japan. With a joyful expression, he bravely rides a boat through the raging sea. He is surrounded by an absolute classic: the motif of the great wave, an unmistakable and affectionate homage to Katsushika Hokusai's famous masterpiece, "The Great Wave off Kanagawa." This combination of epochal art history and the humorous dog makes the scarf a true eye-catcher.

Excellent craftsmanship from Yokohama

This tenugui not only looks beautiful, it is also masterfully crafted. It comes from our partner manufacturer HAMAMONYO , a family business with over 75 years of experience. The pattern is applied by hand to the fine cotton fabric using the traditional Yokohama wet -dyeing technique. The fabric itself was specially developed for tenugui production, bleached without chlorine, and is therefore particularly skin-friendly and pleasantly soft.

Award-winning design: The Omotenashi Gold Award

The exceptional quality of this cloth is even officially confirmed: The design was awarded the coveted “Gold Award” of the OMOTENASHI Selection in 2022 – a high accolade for Japanese hospitality, outstanding design and craftsmanship.

Versatile in everyday life

Whether as a classic towel, sustainable gift wrapping, a table runner, or simply as cheerful wall decor – this easy-care tenugui accompanies your everyday life with quiet, high-quality craftsmanship. Pair it with our magnetic picture rail to bring a touch of Japan to your wall.
