Cherry blossoms in the moonlight
This tenugui depicts an elegant fan upon which cherry blossoms (sakura) unfold. Above it, flowering branches float against a deep blue night sky, illuminated by a radiant full moon (tsuki) . The clean lines, harmonious interplay of colors, and floral motifs lend the design a serene, almost classical feel—like a moment from an ancient poem.
The stylized fan at the bottom symbolizes not only elegance, but also festivity and seasonal change. A motif that unites the beauty of spring with the tranquility of night.
The cloth is manufactured by the long-established family business HAMAMONYO in Yokohama. Thanks to the Yokohama wet dyeing technique, particularly brilliant and long-lasting prints are created. The cotton fabric used is chlorine-free bleached, soft, skin-friendly, and was specially developed for Tenugui production.
The design was awarded the “Gold Award” by the OMOTENASHI Selection – a sign of genuine Japanese craftsmanship and aesthetic depth.
