This ingenious Furoshiki carries the name 大布 市松小紋あそび (Ōfu Ichimatsu Komon Asobi) – "large cloth, chequerboard small-pattern play". The epithet Asobi (あそび, "play") already hints at its playful character: the classic Ichimatsu (市松) chequerboard pattern is reinterpreted here, with each individual square showing a different traditional Japanese Wa-Komon (和小紋) – Asanoha (hemp leaf), Seigaiha (waves), Shippō (Seven Treasures), checks, stripes, dots and many more. In harmonious shades of blue from deep navy to soft sky blue, complemented by warm cream tones, a lively patchwork emerges that reveals new details at every glance. The Ichimatsu pattern symbolises prosperity, continuity and family fortune – combined here with the diversity of Japanese textile patterns to make a true collector's piece for lovers of tradition.

  • Washing: Machine washing up to 40 °C is perfectly fine. For strong colors (especially red/dark blue), we recommend washing separately the first time to prevent color bleeding.
  • Drying: Air dry is best. The shantung fabric dries quickly.
  • Ironing: The characteristic texture of the shantung fabric is best preserved if the cloth is shaken out after washing and air-dried. If necessary, iron on a low to medium heat setting.
  • Note: Do not use bleach to protect color brilliance.
