This striking Furoshiki carries the name 大布 亀甲モダン (Ōfu Kikkō Modern) – "large cloth, tortoiseshell modern". The design is a contemporary reinterpretation of the Kikkō (亀甲), one of Japan's oldest and most important patterns. The hexagonal shape is modelled on the shell of the tortoise (Kame, 亀) and in Japanese symbolism stands for longevity, protection and permanence – tortoises are considered sacred animals said to live for over a thousand years. The hexagons are arranged in an ingenious alternation of rich mustard yellow, deep black and creamy white, each filled with different traditional Wa-Komon (和小紋): floral diamonds, checks, stripes, dots and stylised floral motifs. The result is a pattern of graphic power and pronounced depth – classic symbolism in a modern design guise.

  • Washing: Machine washing up to 40 °C is perfectly fine. For strong colors (especially red/dark blue), we recommend washing separately the first time to prevent color bleeding.
  • Drying: Air dry is best. The shantung fabric dries quickly.
  • Ironing: The characteristic texture of the shantung fabric is best preserved if the cloth is shaken out after washing and air-dried. If necessary, iron on a low to medium heat setting.
  • Note: Do not use bleach to protect color brilliance.
