The design is a contemporary reinterpretation of Kikkō (亀甲), one of Japan's oldest and most important patterns. The hexagonal shape is modeled after the turtle's shell (Kame, 亀) and in Japanese symbolism represents longevity, protection, and endurance – turtles are considered sacred animals that are said to live for over a thousand years. The hexagons are arranged in a sophisticated alternation of rich mustard yellow, deep black, and creamy white, each filled with various traditional Wa-Komon (和小紋): floral diamonds, checks, stripes, dots, and stylized flower motifs. Care and instructions
- Washing: Machine washing up to 40 °C is perfectly fine. For strong colors (especially red/dark blue), we recommend washing separately the first time to prevent color bleeding.
- Drying: Air dry is best. The shantung fabric dries quickly.
- Ironing: The characteristic texture of the shantung fabric is best preserved if the cloth is shaken out after washing and air-dried. If necessary, iron on a low to medium heat setting.
- Note: Do not use bleach to protect color brilliance.
