Cherry Blossoms at Dusk – A Delicate Moment Before Night
This romantic Furoshiki is named 大布 宵待桜 (Ōfu Yoimaezakura) – "Large Cloth, Cherry Blossoms at Dusk". The poetic term Yoimae (宵待) describes that special moment when twilight sets in and the sky is bathed in soft pink hues – not yet night, but no longer day. The design captures exactly this mood: skillfully drawn cherry tree branches, adorned with countless white and pink Sakura (桜) blossoms, stretch across delicate pastel gradients of pink and cream white. The fine branches appear as if painted with ink on silk, giving the cloth an almost watercolor-like aesthetic. In Japan, Sakura symbolizes beauty, transience, and the preciousness of the moment – captured in the silent magic of twilight.
Your Advantages at a Glance
- Suitable size for many uses: Perfect for larger gifts, bottles, as a tote bag with knots (even as an elegant handbag with our leather handles in three colors) or as a decorative accent at home.
- Grippy fabric: The cotton shantung is tactile, knots reliably, and gives the cloth a high-quality structure.
- Reusable instead of disposable: A Furoshiki can be reused again and again – aesthetics meet sustainable packaging.
Frequently Asked Questions
▸ How do I tie a Furoshiki into a tote bag?
You can learn the classic knotting technique "Bin Tsutsumi" (for bottles) or "Otsukai Tsutsumi" (as a tote bag) in just a few minutes. With our leather handles, the cloth even becomes an elegant handbag – available in three colors.
▸ Can I wash the Furoshiki?
Yes – machine washing up to 40 °C is easily possible. Do not use fabric softener to preserve the grippy texture of the cotton shantung.
▸ Is the cloth really more sustainable than gift wrap?
Significantly. A single Furoshiki replaces hundreds of disposable packages over its lifespan. Made from 100% cotton, plastic-free, and compostable at the end of its life.
Manufactured by HAMAMONYO, since 1948 in Yokohama. The combination of high-quality cotton shantung, careful craftsmanship, and detailed design makes this Furoshiki a long-lasting companion.

Care and instructions
- Washing: Machine washing up to 40 °C is perfectly fine. For strong colors (especially red/dark blue), we recommend washing separately the first time to prevent color bleeding.
- Drying: Air dry is best. The shantung fabric dries quickly.
- Ironing: The characteristic texture of the shantung fabric is best preserved if the cloth is shaken out after washing and air-dried. If necessary, iron on a low to medium heat setting.
- Note: Do not use bleach to protect color brilliance.
