Traditional craftsmanship with cultural diversity
This tenugui is like a visual travelogue through Japan. It is made by the family-run company HAMAMONYO in Yokohama – a manufacturer with over 75 years of experience in the traditional wet-dyeing technique (Yokohama Nassen). The design is hand-printed onto a fine cotton fabric that is chlorine-free bleached and specially developed for tenugui production. It is soft, skin-friendly, and pleasantly lightweight.
The artwork features typical symbols of Japanese culture: koi carp, samurai, geisha, kabuki actors, the national flag, and other classic motifs, all presented in a clear, graphic style. The vibrant colors and documentary-style approach make this tenugui a tribute to Japan's cultural diversity – rich in detail, symbolic, and expressive.
Whether as a towel, gift wrapping (Furoshiki), headband, table runner or decoration: This Tenugui is versatile, easy to care for and accompanies everyday life with quiet quality.
