A Maiko in a sea of wisteria

This artistic picture Tenugui bears the name 藤花舞妓 (Fujibana Maiko) – "Wisteria Maiko". It captures a classic moment of Japanese aesthetics: an elegantly dressed Maiko (舞妓) strolls beneath the cascading violet blossoms of the wisteria (Fuji, 藤).

The design impresses with its vertical composition and vivid colours. The deep violet and brilliant white wisteria vines form a magnificent frame for the Maiko, who wears a perfectly matched kimono and carries a red Wagasa (和傘) – the traditional parasol. A particularly charming detail is the little Shiba Inu at her feet, bringing the scene to life. The blue accents in the background lend the design a summery freshness and depth.

A note on authenticity: As is typical of traditional Tenugui, the short edges are left unhemmed. This helps the cloth dry faster. Slight fraying at first is normal; any loose threads can be carefully trimmed. The edge stabilises on its own after the first few washes.
