Summer night with fireworks and wave power
This tenugui depicts a powerful scene: luminous fireworks (hanabi) illuminate the night sky, while dynamic waves (ōnami) crash across the sea below. The vibrant composition impressively combines energy and festivity – a symbol of the Japanese summer in all its splendor.
The cloth is made by the renowned family business HAMAMONYO in Yokohama, which has mastered the Yokohama wet dyeing technique for over 75 years. The cotton fabric used is chlorine-free bleached, soft, skin-friendly, and specially developed for the production of tenugui.
An expressive summer motif that captures the feeling of a Matsuri festival by the sea – with thunderous fireworks over dark water and dancing waves in vibrant colors.
The design was awarded the “Gold Award” by the OMOTENASHI Selection – a mark of high-quality design, masterful technique and Japanese aesthetics.
