Movement between waves and moonlight
This tenugui combines classic symbolism with vibrant illustration. It is crafted by the family-run company HAMAMONYO in Yokohama – a manufacturer with over 75 years of experience in the traditional wet-dyeing technique (Yokohama Nassen). The design is hand-printed onto a fine cotton fabric, bleached without chlorine and specially developed for tenugui production. It is soft, skin-friendly, and pleasantly lightweight.
The image depicts two white rabbits leaping through stylized waves , framed by dripping water motifs and a large, still moon. The dynamic composition captures the moment between tension and lightness – a motif reminiscent of classic Japanese printmaking, yet speaking its own modern language.
Whether as a towel, gift wrapping (Furoshiki), headband, table runner or decoration: This Tenugui is versatile, easy to care for and accompanies everyday life with quiet quality.
The design was awarded the “Gold Award” of the OMOTENASHI Selection in 2022 – a recognition of Japanese hospitality, craftsmanship and design.
