Classic wave art – inspired by Japan's coasts
This tenugui combines traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern clarity. It is crafted by the family-run company HAMAMONYO in Yokohama – a manufacturer with over 75 years of experience in the artful wet-dyeing technique (Yokohama Nassen). The design is hand-printed onto a specially developed, chlorine-free bleached cotton fabric. The result is a finely crafted, lightweight cloth with a soft feel and high utility.
The design features stylized waves (波) in various shades of blue, stretching across the entire cloth – powerful, rhythmic, yet harmonious. The pattern's structure is reminiscent of classic Japanese prints, while the design appears modern and timeless. An ideal tenugui for those who appreciate tranquility, movement, and the symbolic power of water.
Whether as a towel, wall hanging, headband, gift wrapping or table runner – this tenugui is versatile, robust and at the same time an expression of traditional craftsmanship.
