A symbol of luck and protection during the cold season
This striking tenugui bears the name Nanten – "Sacred Nandina" (or "Skyberry"). In Japan, this plant is considered a powerful symbol of good fortune, as its name phonetically resembles the phrase "to ward off misfortune." It displays the characteristic, bright red berries that are often found adding splashes of color to snow-covered Japanese gardens.
The motif captivates with its elegant simplicity: vibrant red berries hang from delicate branches, surrounded by the deep green leaves of the nanten (Japanese vine) . The composition against the cream-colored background exudes a tranquil, almost meditative mood, perfectly suited to the transition from late autumn to winter. It captures the essence of Japanese nature, which adds vibrant touches even during the dormant winter months.
The design comes from HAMAMONYO , a long-established textile manufacturer from Yokohama. Thanks to the Yokohama wet printing technique, the colors appear particularly vibrant and clear, even in subtle color gradients.
