Traditional craftsmanship with a summery freshness
This tenugui combines delicate Japanese nature motifs with traditional craftsmanship. It is made by the family-run company HAMAMONYO in Yokohama – a manufacturer with over 75 years of experience in the traditional wet-dyeing technique (Yokohama Nassen). The design is hand-printed onto a fine cotton fabric that is chlorine-free bleached and specially developed for tenugui production. It is soft, skin-friendly, and pleasantly lightweight.
The painting depicts green summer maple leaves (natsu momiji) spreading over a stylized water scene with a goldfish bowl (kingyo-bachi) . The composition evokes a tranquil summer day in the shade – refreshing, vibrant, and clear. A small scene that appeals to both the eye and the heart.
Whether as a towel, gift wrapping (Furoshiki), headband, table runner or decoration: This Tenugui is versatile, easy to care for and accompanies everyday life with quiet quality.
The design was awarded the “Gold Award” of the OMOTENASHI Selection in 2022 – a recognition of Japanese hospitality, craftsmanship and design.
