A summer dream of light and sound
This tenugui combines typical symbols of the Japanese summer in a soft, dreamy composition. It is crafted by the family-run company HAMAMONYO in Yokohama – a manufacturer with over 75 years of experience in the traditional wet-dyeing technique (Yokohama Nassen). The design is hand-printed onto a fine cotton fabric, bleached without chlorine and specially developed for tenugui production. It is soft, skin-friendly, and pleasantly lightweight.
The scene depicts blooming morning glories (朝顔, asagao) , a delicately tinkling wind chime (風鈴, fūrin) , swimming goldfish , and rising fireworks . Framed by a round window, the scene offers a view outside—as if from a cool, shaded room. The soft yellow and blue palette underscores the tranquil lightness of this summer scene.
Whether as a towel, gift wrapping (Furoshiki), headband, table runner or decoration: This Tenugui is versatile, easy to care for and accompanies everyday life with quiet quality.
The design was awarded the “Gold Award” of the OMOTENASHI Selection in 2022 – a recognition of Japanese hospitality, craftsmanship and design.
