Summer mood amidst wind chimes and goldfish
This tenugui depicts a playful white cat (neko) curiously observing a group of goldfish (kingyo) . Above, a Japanese wind chime (fūrin) sways gently in the summer breeze. The undulating lines in the background suggest shimmering heat or the play of light on water's surface. A scene brimming with lightness and summer nostalgia.
The cloth is produced by the long-established family business HAMAMONYO in Yokohama – an expert in the Yokohama wet dyeing technique with over 75 years of experience. The cotton fabric used is chlorine-free bleached, skin-friendly, soft, and was specially developed for Tenugui production.
The design invites you to pause and reflect – like a cool moment in the shade on a hot day. The typical summer motifs are lovingly drawn and subtly coordinated in color.
The design was awarded the “Gold Award” by the OMOTENASHI Selection – a mark of craftsmanship and authentic Japanese design.
