A summer evening of fireworks and goldfish

This Tenugui goes by the name 納涼花火 (Noryo Hanabi) and depicts a Japanese summer evening with bright fireworks (花火, hanabi) against a dark sky and goldfish (金魚, kingyo) swimming across the lower part of the design.

Swirling water forms and bold colours give the composition movement without losing its balance. The motif recalls warm festival evenings by the water and brings exactly that festive summer mood to the cloth.
