Between reflection and reality
This tenugui combines classic Japanese landscape painting with meticulous craftsmanship. It is made by the family-run company HAMAMONYO in Yokohama – a manufacturer with over 75 years of experience in the traditional wet-dyeing technique (Yokohama Nassen). The design is hand-printed onto a fine cotton fabric, bleached without chlorine and specially developed for tenugui production. It is soft, skin-friendly, and pleasantly lightweight.
The image shows the inverted Mount Fuji (さかさ富士) , reflected in the still water – a powerful, timeless motif. The composition radiates tranquility, clarity, and depth. It represents harmony between nature and perception, between reflection and reality. The delicate blossoms in the foreground underscore the quiet luminosity of this scene.
Whether as a towel, gift wrapping (Furoshiki), headband, table runner or decoration: This Tenugui is versatile, easy to care for and accompanies everyday life with quiet quality.
The design was awarded the “Gold Award” of the OMOTENASHI Selection in 2022 – a recognition of Japanese hospitality, craftsmanship and design.
