Cherry blossom splendor in the moonlight
This tenugui depicts a delicate spring scene with dancing cherry blossoms (sakura) against a bright full moon. The scene is dreamlike: white and red petals float through the air, while a stylized hill in the background gently completes the composition. It is produced by the long-established family business HAMAMONYO in Yokohama – experts in the Yokohama wet dyeing technique with over 75 years of experience. The cotton fabric used is chlorine-free bleached, soft, skin-friendly, and was specially developed for tenugui production.
The colors range from light pink to dark red, reminiscent of beautiful cherry blossoms in spring. The tranquil, almost meditative motif represents transience, new beginnings, and quiet moments of contemplation.
Whether as a towel, gift wrapping (Furoshiki), headband, table runner or decoration: This Tenugui is versatile, easy to care for and a piece of high-quality Japanese craftsmanship.
The design was awarded the “Gold Award” by the OMOTENASHI Selection – a recognition of Japanese hospitality, craftsmanship and design.
