Tenugui “Yūgure-zuki”

A purple sky, a gentle moon over Mount Fuji, dancing maple leaves, and koi carp in the water – this tenugui captures the beauty of a Japanese autumn evening in vibrant colors. The motif bears the poetic name夕暮れ月 (Yūgure-zuki) , which means "Twilight Moon".

In the upper reaches, Mount Fuji shimmers in soft white, while orange-red momiji (紅葉) – the typical autumn leaves – are caught by the breeze, setting the scene in motion. Koi fish (鯉) glide through the dark water, while above them, violet shadows and wisps of mist herald the arrival of evening.

This evocative design comes from the traditional Japanese company HAMAMONYO from Yokohama. The company uses the elaborate Yokohama Nassen technique, a special form of reactive printing, to create brilliant colors and fine details on chlorine-free bleached cotton.

Awarded the OMOTENASHI Selection Gold Award , this Tenugui represents excellent Japanese design and craftsmanship.
