This charming little towel is namedちゃんこいシマエナガ (Chankoi Shimaenaga) – “Cute Long-tailed Tit”. It is dedicated to the popular Shimaenaga (シマエナガ) , the Japanese long-tailed tit, often affectionately called “snow fairies” because of their round, white plumage.
The design depicts small birds in various playful poses against a simple white background, accentuated by fine stripes and delicate pastel shades. As part of the Wa-taoru series, this towel is a practical hybrid: while the front is made of smoothly woven, finely printed cotton, the soft terry cloth backing ensures excellent absorbency. This makes it significantly more comfortable to hold than a classic tenugui and ideal for everyday use.
The design comes from HAMAMONYO in Yokohama. Thanks to the traditional Yokohama wet-dyeing technique, the colors remain colorfast and the outlines of the small birds are razor-sharp, giving the towel a particularly high-quality feel.

Care and instructions
- Wash:Washable up to 40 °C.
- Recommendation:A laundry net is ideal! It prevents zippers or buttons on other garments from pulling threads out of the terry cloth side ("thread puller").
- Dry:Do not tumble dry. The heat could cause the two different layers of fabric to shrink unevenly, resulting in the cloth becoming misshapen. Simply pull it into shape and hang it up.
- Thread puller:Should a terry cloth loop come loose: Do not pull on it! Simply cut the protruding thread short with scissors. Since it is a woven loop, this will not create a hole.
- Softener:Use sparingly or not at all, as it reduces the absorbency of the terry cloth ("gliding effect" instead of drying).
